Description
This article is a historical review of Richard Keith Call: Southern Unionist by Herbert J. Doherty. The occasion for the article was the marriage of great-great-granddaughter, Mary Call Collins to Palmer Proctor. It details his military career and his battles against the Spanish and indigenous people in Florida, as well as his business endeavors in building a railroad system. It concludes by saying that even though Call died before the end of the Civil War, he opposed secession and did not want to see the nation divided. This again understates Call's racism and his connection to slavery.
